Alastair is an experienced disputes lawyer who works with clients across Level’s sectors of expertise, with a particular focus on sports law and arbitration. Alastair acts on behalf of the full spectrum of stakeholders in sport, including athletes, agents, rights holders and governing bodies, and has been appointed as arbitrator on judicial panels in a number of sports. This gives him an insight into every side of a dispute, including that of the decision-makers, and allows him swiftly to advise clients on the optimum strategy whatever the situation. Alastair has particular expertise in betting matters, having researched and authored Level’s comprehensive “Evening the Odds” report into FA betting cases and co-authored the chapter on Corruption, Match-Fixing and Betting in the latest edition of “Football and the Law” by Nick de Marco KC.
Alastair also specialises in disciplinary and regulatory work, advising on non-contentious issues such as the drafting of regulations and procedures, as well as acting on contentious disciplinary, safeguarding and anti-doping matters. Alastair regularly appears as advocate in these cases, utilising his in-depth knowledge and skills as a communicator to deliver successful outcomes before disciplinary panels and tribunals. His style has been described by clients as “clear and persuasive” and “concise but hard hitting”.
