Level advises on over 100 transactions during the 2026 football winter transfer window
The winter transfer window saw more than 5,900 international transfers in men’s professional football (totalling £1.4 billion pounds in spending) as well over £7 million spent on international transfer fees in the women’s game.
Despite reports of a quieter January, a final flurry of spending on deadline day left the total spend of Premier League clubs during the winter window at over £400 million.
Level was once more trusted to advise on deals at the forefront of the transfer market, assisting clients on an array of complex transfers and transactions throughout the English football pyramid, as well as in Europe. Our work included advising on 4 of the top 10 worldwide transactions recorded by Transfermarkt in the January window.
Behind the impressive figures on spending and transactions lies a tremendous amount of work and preparation for all stakeholders in football. It is therefore a privilege for our team of specialists (which includes Dan Lowen, Liz Coley, Will Hill, Jonathan Hyman and Finley Davis) to work closely with all our clients, delivering exceptional results each transfer window.
That said, the English window closing doesn’t mean that the work stops for Level. Players who terminated their contract before the applicable transfer deadline can still sign for a new club, with free agent registrations potentially possible in England until the fourth Thursday in March each season.
As a result, players (and agents) often look to negotiate terminations and settlements prior to the end of a window to give themselves more time to find a suitable move without the pressure of the deadline.
Also, given that a small number of European and other international windows remain open, the market is still active, keeping the Level Football team busy supporting our clients long after deadline day.
