Jonathan brings over four decades of experience at the heart of the global music business. As Executive Vice President & International General Counsel, at Sony Music Entertainment, he helped shape the legal and strategic landscape of the recorded music industry in the UK and across a wide array of other regions and countries.

A trusted advisor to C-suite executives and a skilled negotiator, Jonathan played a pivotal role in some of the industry’s most significant legal developments — from the George Michael contract litigation to EU merger scrutiny and major copyright and antitrust cases.

Jonathan’s career began in private practice before moving in-house at CBS Records (now Sony Music Entertainment) in 1985, where he held increasingly senior roles before retiring in 2025. Alongside his leadership in legal strategy, he has held governance roles including Company Secretary and Pension Trustee and served on the boards and committees of key trade bodies including IFPI, PPL, BPI and the CBI.

He now brings his deep sector knowledge and global network to Level as a consultant, advising clients in music and entertainment on a variety of contentious and non-contentious legal matters including those involving complex rights, licensing, and strategy.
