Level successfully defends Lucas Paquetá in long-running spot-fixing case
Level has successfully defended Lucas Paquetá in one of the longest-running and most significant FA disciplinary cases ever. Mr Paquetá was charged with four counts of spot-fixing, with The FA alleging that he deliberately sought to receive a yellow card for the improper purpose of affecting the betting market in four Premier League fixtures. If found guilty, Mr Paquetá faced the prospect of a lifetime ban. However, those charges have now been dismissed in their entirety by an independent Regulatory Commission, whose reasons will be published in due course.
Few cases carry the weight this one has - professionally, personally and emotionally for our client. Mr Paquetá has faced down immense pressure with remarkable strength and resilience. We are delighted that we’ve been able to help demonstrate that Mr Paquetá’s integrity as a player and a person is in no doubt. Now, he can finally get back to focusing on the things that matter most to him - playing football and being with his family.
The Level team was led by Partner Alastair Campbell, with support from Partner Dan Lowen and Managing Associate Jonathan Hyman, instructing leading sports law barristers Nick De Marco KC and Kendrah Potts.
