Level Featured in The Lawyer
Level has been featured in the Spotlight section of The Lawyer, in a piece exploring the firm’s growth, its distinctive fee-sharing structure and the increasing appeal of flexible models for senior lawyers.
Written by Eve Erskine, the article examines how Level was founded and how it has evolved into a specialist platform for lawyers working across sport, media, entertainment and technology.
Founded in 2017, Level was established to combine the flexibility of a modern fee-sharing model with a strong sector-focused brand. As founder Daniel Lowen explains:
“The idea was to take this new law system that had been implemented by a number of firms successfully, but to take that freedom and flexibility and apply it under a brand that resonated with clients in our sectors.”
The article highlights how Level’s intentionally lean structure enables partners to run entrepreneurial practices while still benefiting from collaboration and a shared platform. Since launching with four lawyers, the firm has grown to more than 45, advising clients across the sport, media and entertainment industries.
It also features insights from senior practitioners joining from well-known firms, including partner Karim Bouzidi, who explains why the model appeals to experienced lawyers:
“When you’re a senior lawyer with an established practice, your friends, your family and your wife will say ‘Why don’t you just set up on your own?’ A fee-sharing platform allows lawyers to maintain independence while avoiding the costs and isolation of sole practice.”
Finally, the article explores broader trends in the legal market, including the increasing commercialisation of sport and the growing complexity of disputes. As investment and regulation continue to expand across professional sport, specialist firms such as Level are well positioned to support clients in this evolving landscape.
